Parents

Dear Parents,

We are thrilled you will be joining us at Shine Dance Competitions! To assist in your planning, we have compiled a list of some of your most frequently asked questions.
We look forward to serving you soon!

Pre-Competition Information

1. Where exactly is the competition being held?

Please click on our “Dates & Locations” menu option and select the competition you are attending. Directions, host hotels, and information about the venue are listed under each event’s date.

2. Where do I Park?

Each venue has a different parking set-up. Check the “Dates & Locations” link for your competition and click on “Theatre Information” to find the specifics for your event.

3. I noticed a mistake on the schedule. What should I do?

Please contact your studio director and have them contact us as soon as possible.

4. What time do changerooms open in the morning?

Changerooms open 1 hour prior to the first performance. Please do not arrive earlier as the building will not be open. The theatre generally opens 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled performance.

5. What time should I arrive at the competition?

Please confirm with your studio directors what time they want you to arrive at the event. Remember to leave extra time for parking and finding your changeroom – especially if it’s your first time at the venue. In addition, most venues are not equipped with mirrors for every competitor – so it’s often a good idea to have hair and make-up done prior to arrival.

Lastly, we sometimes run early and ask that all dancers be ready to dance 30 minutes prior to their scheduled performance.

6. My daughter/son is currently 14 but they are in the age 13 solo category – is this correct?

Age is determined as of December 31st of the previous season (i.e. ages are taken as of December 31st, 2010 for the 2011 season).

If you notice your daughter/son is not in the correct category given the above cut-off date, please contact your studio director and have them contact us as soon as possible.

7. I have family who wants to watch the event. What is the fee to watch?

Shine Dance Competitions encourages family support and does not have a fee to watch the event.

8. Is photography and/or videography allowed during performances?

For the safety of your children and the protection of choreography, absolutely NO videotaping or photography is allowed during performances. We urge all studio owners, teachers, and especially parents to keep our performers photographically safe by reporting suspected photographic violations. We will have a professional photographer and videographer at all of our events, and photographs and videos will be available for purchase. The use of video or photography may lead to an entry being “adjudicated only.”

9. How do we find the Changerooms?

Shine Dance Competitions will have signs to help navigate you towards to the changeroom areas. At some events, changerooms may be assigned by studio, with multiple studios per changeroom. When assigning dressing rooms, we take into account the number and size of dances the various studios have each day and try to accommodate everyone’s needs.

When space permits, Shine will assign a ‘Quick Changeroom’ which is intended to help dancers with a quick change.

We thank you in advance for your help in sharing the dressing room space.

10. Can my son change with his studio?

We ask that all males change in the designated ‘boys changeroom’ and not in the female changerooms.

11. Where can the dancers rehearse?

Depending on the venue, there may or may not be a specific ‘rehearsal room’ available. Please visit the Theatre Information link under your specific event date for details.

12. My daughter/son does not have a solo. Will I still be able to get them their own Medal?

Yes. Shine Dance Competitions understands the momentous occasion of performing at a competition. As such, our custom medals and trophies will be available for purchase at each event.

Post-Competition Information

13. I left a piece of my daughter’s/son’s costume at the competition. Who should I contact?

Shine Dance Competitions will leave all “Lost & Found” items at the venue. Please contact the venue directly to retrieve your item.  Contact information can be found in the “Dates & Locations” section under your specific event.

14. I forgot to order a photograph and/or video of my daughter/son. Who should I contact?

All photos and DVD are taken by AGI Events Media. They can be reached at: (905) 424-2638 or agieventmedia@rogers.com

15. My daughter/son placed in the top 3 in their division. Where can I see all the High Scores?

Congratulations! Placing in the top 3 of a division is a HUGE accomplishment. All High Scores are posted after each competition in the ‘Results’ menu option under your specific event.

16. I noticed the Shine staff were taking photos of the dancers. Where can we see these?

All photographs taken by our Shine staff can be found in our Gallery under your specific event. These photos are free to save on your computer by ‘right clicking’ on the image and saving.

17. My daughter/son won a trophy but the studio takes it for their display. Can I order my own?

Yes. Please contact the Shine Office to place your order.
Please email us with your daytime telephone number, your mailing address, and which award was won (e.g. 2nd place Large Groups/Lines, or 1 x Platinum Medal).

You can either send a cheque or email transfer for the payment.
