THEATRE
PLEASE NOTE
- Dancers should have shoes/flip flops to walk around the museum. They cannot go barefoot.
- Please check back as we approach the competition for updates.

STAGE DIMENSIONS
- approximately 29’ deep x 40’ wide
LOADING DOCK
- There is a loading dock behind the theatre which can be accessed off Laurier Street. Unfortunately, this is not a parking area – and once you have finished loading/unloading, please move your truck.
PARKING
- Pay parking is available at the Museum of Civilization from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
- There is additional parking on the streets around the Museum. Check for posted hours and rates.
PROPS
- Please ensure you have adequate staff to prep your props for easy load-in and load-off the stage. Heavy items should be on dollies to avoid scratching the dance floor. Props can be pre-assembled in the loading dock and then wheeled onto the stage. We want to keep to our time-schedule so dancers are dancing as scheduled.

DRESSING ROOMS
- All dressing rooms will be assigned based on the room availability at the Museum.
- The Boys dressing room and ‘Quick Changes’ room will be backstage.
- To avoid congestion:
- Have hair/make-up done.
- please vacate when the room is not needed.
- Parents -- please pack-up all belongings from changerooms if you are leaving after the awards to make room the incoming dancers.

SHINE SHOP
- Our Shine Shop will be in full operation to get your Shine Dance Merchandise. Please note that we will be accepting only credit or debit cards -- we will not be accepting cash.
REHEARSAL AREA
- Dancers may practice in the hallways outside the Ateliers (as long as no school programs are in progress) and outside the Theatre.
*NOTE: the Museum has a ‘shoe policy’ whereby dancers must wear shoes when walking between the changerooms and the Theatre. This is done for the dancers’ safety and we appreciate your cooperation.

EVENT DETAILS
PROGRAMS
- Programs will be made available for download, free of charge, through our website approximately 2 weeks prior to the event.
- Programs will not be sold at the event.
- We may run up to 15min early from the scheduled times.
AWARDS PIN
- Every dancer receives a custom Shine Awards Pin to display your ribbons on your Team Jacket! We’ve got one per dancer, so please make sure you pick it up at the Shine Shop.
LIVE STREAMING
- This event will have a live stream available through our website
- A code to watch was provided to Studios
FOOD DRIVE
- We are very excited to continue our annual Food Drive where all proceeds are donated to a local food bank. To date, we have collectively raised 22,160 lbs of food!!
- Please remind your dancers to bring at least 2 items of non-perishable food for our drive.
PHOTOGRAPHY
- As a reminder, your entry fees now include all your Studio's photos and videos!
- Media will be available approximately 1 week after the event.
STUDIO NAME/LOGO
- In an effort to keep your studio’s identity from the judges during performances, we ask that you please cover your studio logo when placing props on the stage.
- Your dancers are certainly encouraged to wear their studio attire during awards ceremonies.
- Your costume should not contain your Studio Name*
STAGE ETIQUETTE
- Substances which alter the condition of the stage, and may affect the dancing surface for other competitors are prohibited (e.g. tossing sparkles, baby powder, water/liquid, body paint, etc.). If it cannot be easily swept off the stage quickly, it should not be put on the stage.
- If the stage is littered after your performance (ex: feathers, paper etc.). you must be ready for immediate removal of the items. We will have a flat broom backstage.
- Helium balloons are not to be released on-stage as it is costly to get them down and they may pop during another performance if left on the ceiling. They may be used if they are on a weight and not released.
- Released balloons may result in a deduction or the routine being ‘adjudicated only’
JUDGES
Nancy Floreani
Nancy has been involved in dance performance and training for over 40 years. She is a Life-Time Member of The Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA), Fully Certified in Acrobatic Arts, a Fitness Instructor, and trained Instructor of Stotts Pilates Mat Work Elementary through Advanced. Nancy is also a proud member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA) and ADTA. Nancy hails from Timmins Ontario, and began her teaching career over 40 years ago.
She founded her own studio at the age of 21 and was the director there for 30 years. Throughout her extensive teaching career, Nancy’ students participated in annual dance examinations and dance competitions with excellent results. Nancy continues to teach a variety of recreational and competitive dance classes, as well as Pilates and Barre classes, and is also employed as a Physiotherapy Assistant, working in conjunction with an Osteopath/Physiotherapist to provide private and open rehabilitation classes and training. She has always inspired her students to follow their passion, and many of her former students are currently working professionally as dance educators, or performing in theater, stage and television.
Nancy continues to expand her knowledge and training by attending workshops, seminars and a variety of courses to continue to grow as a teacher and trainer. Nancy is also a former Registered Nurse, and as she has grown both older and wiser, she has devoted these last few years to studying the science of movement. She works to encouraging proper alignment, safe stretching and proper strength training to her students to prevent career ending injuries. She is excited to adjudicate and to share her years of experience and knowledge with the talented dancers on stage. She hopes to inspire and encourage all dancers to reach their full potential and follow their passion.
Alia Ruemper
Alia is a certified ADAPT jazz & tap teacher and has completed her Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) Gold medal jazz and tap exams with Honours status. She has a BA Dance and a BKin General Kinesiology from the University of Calgary and completed her MSc in Dance Science (with distinction) at Laban in London, England. Alia is also Certified in the Acrobatic Arts syllabus, Progressing Ballet Technique and International Dance Teaching Standards.
Her Master thesis “Correlations Between General Joint Hypermobility and Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and Injury in Contemporary Dance Students” was published in the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science. She presented her thesis at the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science conference in The Hague, The Netherlands where she was received the “Student Research Award”. While she was completing her Masters degree in England she performed in a charity showcase of the musical, “Me and My Girl” at the famous London Palladium, and also participated in the Jack Petchey Theatre Challenge at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
The world of dance is constantly progressing and Alia strives to continue learning and educating herself. She has taken Lisa Howell’s Level 1 & 2 training courses, Lauren Ritchie’s Mental Skills training course, The “Comix” Method Hip Hop, as well as Dance Summit in NYC and Rhee Gold’s Conference in Arizona.
In 2020, Alia was named Dance Educator of the Year by Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education and also received the Heather Simpson Memorial Award. She is an active member of the Bridge Dance Project and Wild Rose Dance Arts.
Jeannelle Weese
Ms Jeannelle Weese is a passionate and highly qualified dance educator and studio owner in the Durham region. She began competing with the Alda Legata Hennis School of Ballet at a young age, which lead to numerous awards in ballet, jazz, tap Acro and hip hop as well as an invitation to tour and perform around Spain.
Ms Jeannelle’s successes as a performer inspired her to begin teaching and choreographing. Starting at large studios in the Durham region, Ms Jeannelle began taking certification courses through several accredited dance programmes, including the A.D.A.P.T syllabus, Acrobatic Arts (module 3), Alixa Flexibility, Dance Masters of America, Progressing Ballet Techniques and the Professional Adjudicators Alliance. Her background in Early Childhood Education also gives Ms Jeannelle a unique insight to the physical and emotional development of pre-school and school aged children.
In 2015, Ms Jeannelle opened her studio, Prodigy Dance and Performing Arts in Pickering Ontario. Her dancers have won several awards competing her innovative choreography across Southern Ontario and have earned top marks in Acrobatic Arts, ADAPT and Royal Academy of Dance examinations. Above all, Ms Jeannelle aims to bring out the best in the children she works with and inspire a strong love of the performing arts.
