Custom ribbons presented by the judges for unique qualities in performers and choreography. Special Awards are given at every awards ceremony and are not based on the judges’ marks.

Adjudicators will present this custom Shine ribbon at every session to a ‘stand-out’ performance of their choice.

Chosen by our judges, this ribbon is presented at each awards ceremony to honour the choreographer’s work.

These awards are presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd top scores of the session. All performances are eligible.

Every dancer entering Shine will receive a custom Shine broach on which to pin their ribbons. 

Dancers in Groups will receive a commemorative ribbon for each performance recognizing their achievement of a High Silver, Gold, High Gold, Platinum, Diamond, or Double Diamond score. Solos, Duets and Trios will be awarded individual medals.

Awarded for dancers in the Munchkin, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age divisions in Novice, Competitive Level 1 and Competitive Level 2 classifications. Recipients will receive a custom Shine trophy along with individual ribbons for their outstanding achievement. Cash scholarships will also be awarded to 1st place in numerous categories.

Note: For any 4 day events – we have added the following High Score awards. These placings will come with a certificate and High Score Ribbons:

  • SOLOS: 6th – 10th place

    • If there is only 1 competitor, a minimum score of a Platinum must be achieved for an Award to be given.  In these cases, no Shine Gift Certificate will be issued.
    • A minimum of 5 entries is required to be eligible for a cash scholarship, with the exception of Productions which have a minimum of 2 entries.
    • Categories with 4 or less entries will be issued a Shine Gift Certificate that can be used towards the next season.
    • In the event of a tie for first place, both performances will receive a trophy and the cash scholarship will be split.
    • To be eligible for High Scores and Overalls:


      Your Studio must have at least 10 entries in the competition, and at least 5 of those must be groups to be eligible for High Scores & Overalls.

      Exception: Studios who we deem are non-profit programs, and whose dances are Novice, Comp 1, Young Adult, or Adult, are now eligible for High Scores and Overalls.

* NOTE: Second and Third place will be awarded a custom Shine trophy and commemorative ribbons for every dancer.

While it is important to recognize achievement for individual performances, Shine also acknowledges those dancers who excel in multiple disciplines. A Top Soloist Award will be presented in the Munchkin/Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age divisions, in Competitive Levels 1 & 2, recognizing the highest average solo score. Students who have 2 or more Solos are automatically entered for this award.

It is with continued excitement we present a High Score in each of our disciplines with a custom Shine trophy! The highest scoring Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Ballet, etc. performance will be awarded for the Competitive Level 1 & 2 classifications once all performances for the discipline have danced.

* The following disciplines are combined: all Ballet, all Pointe, Modern/Contemporary, and Musical Theatre/Song & Dance

A $150 cash scholarship will be awarded to the top-scoring production in the competition in Comp1 & 2.

If there is only one Production entry, they must achieve a score of a Platinum or higher for a High Score and Gift Certificate to be awarded.

There must be 2 or more entries to be eligible for a Cash Scholarship.

  • The top 3 performances in each category are awarded.
  • Young Adult & Adult entries are eligible for Performance Awards, and their High Score.

Presented to the top three Solos, Duets, and/or Trios and top three Groups in the Munchkin/Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions in Competitive Level 1 and 2.   If there is no competitor, Solos/Duets/Trios and Group of the same age division will be against each other for High Scores. In the event there is only one competitor between Solos/Duets/Trios and Groups, no High Score will be Awarded.  Aerial Acro and Acro performances will be combined.

These awards are presented to the performers who achieve the top three Acro scores of the competition. All three performances in each competitive level will be awarded a Studio Banner and individual medals.

Cash scholarships:

3rd - $75

* Acro performances will be eligible for the following awards:  High Score Acro for Solos/Duets/Trios & Groups Comp 1 & 2, Overall High Score 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Acro Comp 1 & Comp 2, Production, Costume, Choreography, Soloist, and Ultimate Shine Studio.

Chosen by our judges, this custom Shine trophy is awarded to a Competitive Level 1 performance and a Competitive Level 2 performance the judges feel exhibit outstanding costuming.

Choreographers qualifying for this category must be 24 years of age or younger (age is taken as of December 31st the year prior to competing). The choreography must reflect their individual efforts and not a collaboration with other choreographers. A cash scholarship of $50 and an award will be presented in the Munchkin/Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions in Comp 1 & Comp 2.

*Judges may break ties.
*Ballet and Pointe variations are excluded from this award.

Three choreographers will be presented with a $75 cash scholarship for the performances with the top choreography scores in the Munchkin/Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions in Comp 1 & Comp 2.

These awards are presented to the performers who achieve the top five scores of the competition in Comp 1 & Comp 2. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place recipients will receive a cash scholarship, a Studio Banner, and individual medals. Solos, Duets/Trios, Groups and Productions are eligible for this prestigious award.

Cash scholarships:

*In the event the same Soloist or Duet/Trio places more than once for an Overall High Score, only their top score will be used.

Shine will present an award to the two highest scoring Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines, or Extended Lines of the competition in Competitive Level 1 & 2. Recipients of this award will receive a Studio Banner as well as individual medals.

1st Place: $300

Awarded in Competitive Level 1 & 2 to the studio with the highest average among their top 3 groups in 3 separate disciplines. The spirit of this award is to recognize studios who are mastering multiple dance forms. For example, a studio's top 3 groups might be: Ballet, Tap, and Contemporary. First place will receive a cash scholarship and a Studio Banner, and the Runner Up will receive a Studio Banner.

1st: $300

  • In order to qualify for the Ultimate Shine Studio Award, there must be a minimum of 5 group routines entered by the studio. In the event of a tie, both studios will receive a trophy and the cash scholarship will be split.
  • The following categories will be combined: Acro/Aerial Acro, Ballet/Character Ballet, Pointe/Character Pointe, and Musical Theatre/Song & Dance.
  • The scores of: Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines, and Productions are used to find the highest average group score.
