STAGE ETIQUETTE

  • Substances which alter the condition of the stage, and may affect the dancing surface for other competitors are prohibited (e.g. tossing sparkles, baby powder, water/liquid, body paint, etc.).  If it cannot be easily swept off the stage quickly, it should not be put on the stage.  Dances in violation of this rule may result in not being allowed on stage, have a deduction, and/or deemed "adjudicated only", at the discretion of Shine Dance Competitions.
  • If the stage is littered after your performance (ex: feathers, paper, props, etc.). you must be ready for the immediate removal of the items. We will have a flat broom backstage.
  • Helium balloons are not to be released on-stage as it is costly to get them down and they may pop during another performance if left on the ceiling. They may be used if they are on a weight and not released.
    • Released balloons may result in a deduction or the routine being ‘adjudicated only’

Nancy hails from Northern Ontario. She studied ballet through the Society of Russian Ballet Teachers, and trained in tap, jazz, and modern through the CDTA. Nancy opened the doors to her own studio at the age of 23, and was director there for over 20 years. Many of her former students are currently working professionally as dancers, dance educators, and/or performing in theater, stage and television. As director, Nancy was recognized with a NOVA Business Award in 2012 for excellence in service and named Business of the Year, before handing the reigns of director over to a trusted student and colleague. Her choreographic works over her many years have been well recognized and applauded. These include works for local musicals, commercial and charitable organizations, parades, back-up dancers for bands or solo performers, and the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics.

Throughout her extensive teaching career, Nancy’s students have always excelled on stage and in class through annual examinations, and her students and choreography have won multiple prestigious scholarships, awards, and overalls at various competitions and conventions throughout Canada and abroad. Nancy knows what it takes to develop a dancer from the inside-out, and how important it is to nurture their passion as well as to develop strong technique. Nancy continues to expand her knowledge and training by attending a variety of professional development programs, to continue to grow as a teacher and artist. Nancy believes that education and growth should be a life-long pursuit.

Nancy also has an extensive background in the health sciences, and a strong working knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology.
