DRESSING ROOMS

**Dressing room space is LIMITED and is for everyone to Share** Dancers should come prepared (with make-up done) so unnecessary time is not spent in these rooms. Once they are done performing, it would be helpful if dancers removed their items to make room for new performers.

We do not assign the rooms as it is more efficient for everyone to find free space. Please do not “claim” a room for your Studio and remain respectful of all participants' needs to change.
- As a reminder – it is not appropriate for males to be in the girls’ dressing areas. They will have their own assigned dressing room which can be accessed from backstage on the side of Stage Right.

STAGE ETIQUETTE

If it cannot be easily swept off the stage quickly, it should not be put on the stage. Dances in violation of this rule may result in not being allowed on stage, have a deduction, and/or deemed "adjudicated only", at the discretion of Shine Dance Competitions.
- If the stage is littered after your performance (ex: feathers, paper, props, etc.). you must be ready for the immediate removal of the items. We will have a flat broom backstage.
- Helium balloons are not to be released on-stage as it is costly to get them down and they may pop during another performance if left on the ceiling. They may be used if they are on a weight and not released.
- Released balloons may result in a deduction or the routine being ‘adjudicated only’

JUDGES
Nancy A Floreani
Nancy is first and foremost a teacher. She is a multi-disciplined educator who has been involved in dance and fitness all of her life, and has trained and inspired countless students, from recreational to pre-professional, throughout her 40-year career in dance education. She is a Life Time Member of The Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA), fully certified in Acrobatic Arts, a proud member of Dance Masters of America (DMA), Artistic Dance Educators (ADE), the Professional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA) and a certified adjudicator with Acrobatic Dance Teacher's Association (ADTA). Nancy is also a trained and certified Yoga and Pilates instructor.
Nancy hails from Northern Ontario. She studied ballet through the Society of Russian Ballet Teachers, and trained in tap, jazz, and modern through the CDTA. Nancy opened the doors to her own studio at the age of 23, and was director for over 20 years. Many of her former students are currently working professionally as dancers, dance educators, and/or performing in theatre, stage and television. As director, Nancy was recognized with a NOVA Business Award in 2012 for excellence in service and named Business of the Year, before handing the reigns of director over to a trusted student and colleague. Her choreographic works over her many years have been well recognized and applauded. These include works for local musicals, commercial and charitable organizations, parades, back-up dancers for bands or solo performers, and the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics.
Throughout her extensive teaching career, Nancy’s students have always excelled on stage and in class through annual examinations, and her students and choreography have won multiple prestigious scholarships, awards, and overalls at various competitions and conventions throughout Canada and abroad. Nancy knows what it takes to develop a dancer from the inside-out, and how important it is to nurture their passion as well as to develop strong technique. Nancy continues to expand her knowledge and training by attending a variety of professional development programs, to continue to grow as a teacher and artist. Nancy believes that education and growth should be a lifelong pursuit.
Nancy also has an extensive background in the health sciences, and a strong working knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology. Nancy is a retired RN, and currently works part-time as a PA (Physiotherapy Assistant), providing fitness training and programs to clients who require rehabilitation from an injury, or simply want to take their athletic performance further. During the school year, Nancy also works as an occasional supply teacher with the public school board in her area, at both the elementary and secondary level.
She is excited to adjudicate and to share her years of experience and knowledge with the talented dancers on stage. She hopes to inspire, nurture and encourage all dancers to reach their full potential and follow their passion.
Teresa McMillan
Inspiring dancers to believe in themselves and to trust in their talent is the role of teacher and adjudicator that Teresa McMillan most enjoys. Whether recreational, competitive or professional, the moment a dancer realizes their goal is a shared moment of pure joy!
Teresa integrates many layers of education, utilizing her Honours Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees, to reach dancers on a deeper level. While a teacher and director/owner of highly successful competitive studios in Ontario and Manitoba, she pursued higher education, graduating from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s three-year Teacher Training Program with an Associate Degree, Cecchetti Council of Canada and ISTD; In Ontario: Licentiate Member with the Cecchetti Society of America, Charter Member of the Southern Ontario Chapter of the Cecchetti Council of America, Founding Member of Encore Performing Arts Company, as well as Competitive teacher for the Essex County Dancers Incorporated. Her dancers were the first in Canada to take ballet examinations with the American Academy of Ballet.
Opportunities for examining, guest teaching, dance festivals, competitions, teacher workshops and lectures, auditioning, producing award-winning choreography, as well as extensive travel to study with the best, have been highlights of her years in the performing arts. She proudly follows the careers of former students who continue to work throughout the US and Canada as professional dancers: Emmy-nominated Choreographers, touring with major artists, Broadway shows, film, theatre, examiners, choreographers for stage and film, studio and convention teachers and studio owners.
She is excited to share this wealth of experience with all the dancers this weekend.
